Sport Fishing from Vista Mar Marina, Panama
Our Panama fishing charters depart from Vista Mar Marina in San Carlos on the Pacific coast, a convenient departure point for guests staying in Buenaventura, Río Hato, Coronado and the surrounding beach communities. From here, our professional crew fishes productive offshore and inshore waters for some of Panama’s most sought-after game fish.
Offshore trips target Blue and Black Marlin, Pacific Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi and Wahoo. For the best black marlin odds, we recommend a 3 to 5 day Pro Fishing Expedition or Hacienda del Mar package, south of the Pearl Islands toward Piñas Bay. Depending on the season, conditions and fishing plan, we explore productive Pacific waters and offshore structure where pelagic species feed. Anglers looking for powerful inshore action can target Roosterfish, Cubera Snapper and other coastal species.
When to Fish in Panama
Panama offers fishing opportunities throughout the year, while individual species and conditions vary by season. Our crew plans each charter around current fishing conditions, target species and the experience you want. Choose a full-day professional fishing charter or combine multiple fishing days for a more complete Pacific Panama experience.
Whether your goal is your first sailfish, a trophy marlin, a hard-fighting yellowfin tuna or an inshore roosterfish, Majo Fishing Lodge provides private fishing charters with professional tackle, an experienced crew and departures from Vista Mar Marina.

Panama Fishing Charter FAQ
How much does a fishing charter in Panama cost?
With Majo Fishing Lodge, a private full-day Pro Fishing charter (10 hours) costs US$2,850 on the Hatteras 40 “Makaira” or US$2,400 on the Stamas 39 “Majo V”. A 6-hour Fun Fishing trip costs US$2,100 or US$1,600, and the 4-hour family trip on the Stamas 39 costs US$900. Prices are per boat, not per person, and do not include taxes (ITBMS).
Where do your fishing charters depart from?
Every trip departs exclusively from Vista Mar Marina in San Carlos, at Km 92 of the Pan-American Highway: a short drive from Coronado and Río Hato and about an hour and a half west of Panama City by road. You can add round-trip transportation when you book: US$300 from Panama City or US$100 from Buenaventura or Río Hato.
What fish can I catch in Panama?
Offshore: blue and black marlin, Pacific sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi) and wahoo. Inshore: roosterfish, cubera snapper, amberjack and Spanish mackerel. We release billfish; tuna, dorado and other table fish can be kept, and the crew cleans and fillets your catch.
When is the best time to go fishing in Panama?
On one-day charters, sailfish peak from May to August and marlin in July–August and October–November; tuna and dorado are strongest from June to October. Multi-day trips have their best marlin from July to February and their best sailfish from February to April. See our Panama fishing season calendar for every species and month.
Can I catch a black marlin on a one-day trip?
Black marlin are highly migratory and can show up in many areas, including the Gulf of Panama. In more than 22 years of our own records, the best odds have been south of the Pearl Islands and toward Piñas Bay, so for the best chance we recommend a Pro Fishing Expedition or Hacienda del Mar trip of 2 to 4 days. One-day trips mainly target blue marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorado.
How many people can go on a charter?
All trips are private. Pro Fishing takes up to 5 anglers; Fun Fishing 6 hours and Family Fun Fishing 4 hours take up to 8 guests; Hacienda del Mar and the Pro Fishing Expedition take up to 4 anglers.
What is included?
Fishing license, rods and tackle, fighting chair, ice and water, air-conditioned cabin, bathroom, captain and mate, and cleaning and filleting of your catch. Drinks and snacks can be added for US$20 per person.
How do I book, and what is the cancellation policy?
Choose your trip, boat and date online and pay a 30% deposit by card; every trip is paid in full before departure. For one-day trips, cancel 7 days or more ahead for a deposit refund; with less than 7 days the deposit becomes credit to reschedule. Last-minute bookings are non-refundable except in proven cases of force majeure. Read the full terms and conditions.
Do you offer multi-day fishing or a fishing lodge?
Yes. Hacienda del Mar, on Isla San José in the southern Pearl Islands, combines 2 to 4 days of private fishing with lodging. The Pro Fishing Expedition is a multi-day trip that follows the bite, with the destination agreed with you in advance. Both depart from Vista Mar Marina.
